Man to Appear in Court Following Rape Investigation in Weymouth
A 63-year-old man is due to appear in court in connection with a reported rape in Weymouth following what detectives have described as a detailed and extensive investigation.
Dorset Police said officers received a report at 10.37pm on Sunday 18 February 2024 expressing concern for the welfare of a woman in her 20s in the Park District area of the town.
Officers attended the scene and located the woman, who reported that she had been raped earlier that evening in an alleyway off Stanley Street, Derby Street and Queen Street. The incident is believed to have occurred between approximately 9.15pm and 9.30pm.
A 63-year-old Weymouth man, described as a British national of white British ethnicity, was arrested in connection with the allegation. Following extensive enquiries by the force’s Major Crime Investigation Team (MCIT), he has now been issued with a postal requisition.
He is scheduled to appear at Weymouth Magistrates’ Court on Friday 20 February 2026 charged with an offence of rape.
Detective Inspector Shaun Inkpen, of MCIT, said officers have continued to provide support to the victim and have kept her fully updated throughout the investigation.
He added that the case is now subject to active court proceedings and urged members of the public to avoid speculation or commentary, particularly on social media, to ensure the justice process can proceed fairly.
The matter will now progress through the courts.
