Temporary Closure of Mercery Road in Weymouth Announced

Dorset Council has confirmed that a section of Mercery Road in Weymouth will be temporarily closed in January 2026 to allow essential works to take place. The closure is being implemented under Section 14(2) of the Road Traffic Regulation Act 1984 and is required to maintain safety for both workers and road users while construction activity is carried out

The restriction will apply from the junction with Dorchester Road, covering approximately 15 metres of Mercery Road. The closure will begin on 12 January 2026 and will remain in place for up to five days, although the works are expected to be completed by 16 January 2026 if progress goes to plan

.

The work will be carried out by Mildren Construction to install a new electrical cable across the road junction. During this period, all vehicles, pedestrians, cyclists and equine traffic will be prohibited from using the affected stretch of road. Dorset Council has confirmed that a signed alternative route will be available to help minimise disruption for residents, commuters, and local businesses

.

The closure is necessary to ensure compliance with health and safety regulations and to reduce the likelihood of danger to the public while engineering operations take place. Anyone who contravenes the Notice may face a fine of up to £1,000

.

For more information about the works and access arrangements, members of the public can contact Mildren Construction on 07425 758531. Enquiries regarding the road closure notice itself can be directed to Dorset Council on 01305 221020 or via their roadworks website
