Another vape shop Closed After Police and Trading Standards Raid in Weymouth
A shop on St Thomas Street in Weymouth has been temporarily shut down following a joint operation by Dorset Police and Dorset Council Trading Standards.
The Blue Shop was closed on Monday, 2 February 2026, after officers carried out a raid targeting illicit tobacco and vape products. During the operation, a quantity of illegal tobacco was seized along with £2,180 in cash. A 48-hour temporary closure order was immediately put in place while the matter progressed to court.
At a hearing held today, Tuesday 4 February 2026, Trading Standards officers applied for a three-month closure order. The case has been adjourned until 18 February 2026 to allow the defendant time to prepare a defence. In the meantime, a further 14-day closure order has been imposed.
Authorities say the incident was not an isolated lapse in judgement. On 19 June 2025, Trading Standards officers carried out a covert test purchase and obtained illicit cigarettes from the premises. Five days later, on 24 June, illegal vapes were seized, followed by further cigarette seizures on 30 June. Additional illicit tobacco was confiscated on 25 September 2025.
The business was again raided on 12 December 2025, when officers discovered illegal tobacco products concealed in a purpose-built hiding compartment. On 5 January 2026, a police officer witnessed what was believed to be the sale of illicit tobacco.
The business owner was invited to attend an interview under caution on 19 January 2026 but failed to attend.
Trading Standards say they remain committed to tackling illegal tobacco sales, which undermine legitimate businesses and pose serious health risks to the public.
