Chickerell Town Council keeps tax rise to a minimum for 2026/27
Residents of Chickerell are set to see only a very small rise in their town council tax after Chickerell Town Council agreed its precept for the 2026/27 financial year at a meeting on 13 January 2026.
The increase amounts to just five pence per week for a Band D property, equating to £2.09 per year. The Council says the decision reflects careful financial management and a commitment to protecting households at a time when many are still dealing with cost of living pressures.
Chickerell Town Council continues to be one of the lowest precepting town councils in the local area, a position it says it is determined to maintain while still investing in community services and facilities.
Mayor Cllr Reid welcomed the decision, highlighting both the Council’s long-term planning and the benefits this will bring to the town. He pointed in particular to the ongoing refurbishment and extension of Willowbed Hall, which is expected to be completed this year and will provide a much-improved community space for residents.
In agreeing the precept, councillors said they had carefully balanced the need to fund day-to-day services and future projects with the importance of keeping costs as low as possible for local people.
