Crash at Weymouth Asda Junction Sparks Renewed Safety Fears

A two-car crash at the Asda Junction in Weymouth has once again raised concerns about safety at the busy crossroads.

The collision happened at around 1.26 pm today. Police attended the scene and arranged for one of the vehicles involved to be removed.

No details have been released at this stage about any injuries.

The Asda Junction has long been labelled an accident blackspot by local residents, particularly since Dorset Council replaced the former roundabout with traffic lights ahead of the 2012 Olympic Games.

Residents say the junction has seen dozens of crashes each year since the changes were made, with motorists, cyclists and pedestrians all affected. Safety concerns were heightened following the death of a cyclist at the junction, which locals say should have prompted urgent action.

Many are now calling on Dorset Council to reassess the junction’s layout, arguing that repeated collisions show the current design is not working.
