Fire Breaks Out at First Floor Flat on Corporation Road, Weymouth
Emergency services were called to a property on Corporation Road in Weymouth yesterday evening (10 February) after a fire broke out in a first floor flat.
Dorset & Wiltshire Fire and Rescue Service received reports of the blaze at 6:48pm. It is believed the fire started in a bedroom within the flat.
Five fire engines attended the incident, including two from Weymouth, and crews from Portland, Dorchester and Yeovil. An Aerial Ladder Platform from Yeovil was also sent to the scene to assist firefighters.
In a statement, a spokesperson for Dorset & Wiltshire Fire and Rescue Service said:
“We were called at 6:48pm yesterday (10 February) with reports of a property fire on Corporation Road, Weymouth. Five fire engines attended the incident, Weymouth (x 2), Portland, Dorchester and Yeovil, along with the Aerial Ladder Platform from Yeovil. Crews found a fire in a bedroom on the first floor of the property which was extinguished using one hose reel jet. The fire was contained to the room of origin, and the first floor was affected by smoke damage. The stop was in at 8:43pm and crews remained on scene damping down until just after 10pm. The fire is now under investigation to establish the cause.”
Firefighters were able to contain the blaze to the bedroom where it started, preventing it from spreading to other parts of the property. However, the first floor sustained smoke damage.
No further details have been released at this stage. An investigation is ongoing to determine the cause of the fire.
