Police Appeal for Witnesses After Attempted Burglary on Portland

Officers from the Weymouth and Portland Neighbourhood Policing Team are calling for public assistance following an attempted burglary at a residential property in the early hours of Sunday morning.

The Incident

At approximately 12:30 AM on Sunday, January 4, 2026, residents of a home on Bowers Road were alerted to suspicious activity when their doorbell camera was triggered. Upon further inspection, it was discovered that a window frame at the property had been damaged in an apparent attempt to gain entry.


The suspect, who was seen fleeing the scene shortly after the alarm, is described as:

  • Height: Approximately 5 feet 11 inches tall.
  • Clothing: A grey hooded sweatshirt.


Fortunately, the security measures proved effective; no entry was gained to the home, and no items were reported stolen.


Police Statement


Police Constable Billy Taylor, who is leading the investigation, emphasized the importance of community vigilance.
“I am appealing to anyone who may have seen or heard any suspicious activity in the area to please come forward,” PC Taylor said. “I would also ask residents to please check their home CCTV for any footage showing a man matching the description in the area around the time of the incident.”
