Update Issued Following Investigation into Death of Man in Weymouth

Dorset Police received a report at 7.32am on Tuesday 13 May 2025 that a man had been found unresponsive in a tent on land off Mercery Road, close to the Mount Pleasant Park and Ride site. Sadly, the man, who was aged in his 30s, was pronounced dead at the scene.

An investigation was launched and led by detectives from Dorset County CID. As part of initial enquiries, a man in his 30s and a man in his 40s, both of no fixed abode, were arrested on suspicion of murder.

The two men were subsequently released on police bail while detectives carried out extensive further enquiries to establish the full circumstances surrounding the death. This work included a detailed post-mortem examination and toxicological analysis of the deceased, a process that took several months to complete.

Following a careful review of all the evidence gathered during the investigation, police have now confirmed that there is no indication of any third-party involvement in the man’s death.

As a result, the two men who were arrested have been released from police bail and will face no further action in connection with the incident. The family of the deceased has been informed of this outcome.

Detective Chief Inspector George Graham, of Dorset County CID, said:

“Our thoughts remain with the family and loved ones of the man who sadly died.

We have continued to keep them updated as we carried out a full and thorough investigation into the circumstances of the death.

Following extensive enquiries, we are satisfied that there is nothing to indicate any third-party involvement that caused the man’s death.

This matter will now be the subject of coronial proceedings and we will continue to assist HM Coroner during this process.”
