Weymouth BID Ranger resigned after suspension for sexual harassment complaint
A Weymouth Business Improvement District (BID) Ranger contracted through an external security firm has been suspended following a complaint of alleged sexual harassment.
The ranger, who worked in Weymouth town centre as part of the BID team, was supplied by UDL Security. The company confirmed that it acted immediately after receiving the complaint.
In a statement to our newsroom, UDL Security said:
“We can confirm that we received a complaint and, in line with our policies, the member of staff concerned was suspended with immediate effect and removed from all shifts while we evaluated the evidence available to us.
While awaiting the outcome of this process, the individual in question resigned from all positions within UDL Security.
We believe that Weymouth town centre deserves nothing but the highest standards. As soon as the directors became aware of the complaint, immediate action was taken in accordance with our procedures.
We would like to thank the individuals involved for the confidence they showed in speaking up. All such matters are treated with the utmost seriousness.”
The BID Rangers are a visible presence in the town centre, tasked with supporting businesses, assisting visitors, and helping maintain a safe and welcoming environment.
It is understood the ranger is no longer working in Weymouth following their resignation from UDL Security.
Weymouth BID has been approached for comment regarding the incident and whether any additional safeguarding measures will be introduced for contracted staff. Unfortunately we have not received a reply from Weymouth BID.
No further details about the allegation have been released, and no criminal investigation has been confirmed at this stage.
