Weymouth man appears in court over indecent images offences
A 19-year-old man from Weymouth appeared at Weymouth Magistrates’ Court on Tuesday 14 January charged with multiple offences relating to indecent images of children.
Coby Roper pleaded guilty to six counts of making and distributing indecent photographs or pseudo-photographs of a child. The court heard that the offences involved more than 1,500 images and videos of children and took place over a five-year period between 2019 and 2024.
Roper was identified by the National Crime Agency as being involved in the distribution of the illegal material. He was arrested on 15 August 2024, at which time his electronic devices were seized and examined as part of a forensic investigation.
Following his appearance at Weymouth Magistrates’ Court, Roper was released on conditional bail and is due to appear before Bournemouth Crown Court for sentencing on 20 February.
As part of his bail conditions, Roper must not have any contact with children under the age of 16 unless a parent or guardian is fully aware of his offending and written permission has been granted by social services. He is also required to report to Weymouth police station within 72 hours to register with police in accordance with legal requirements.
The case has been adjourned until his next court appearance.
