Police are appealing for witnesses following a reported assault in Weymouth town centre on Friday evening.
Dorset Police received a report at approximately 6.15pm on 9 January 2026 of an altercation involving a man and a woman who were believed to be known to one another. During the incident, the woman was reportedly assaulted and fell to the ground.
It is further alleged that a second man attempted to intervene and was subsequently assaulted by the male suspect. Neither victim is believed to have sustained serious injuries.
Following initial enquiries, officers arrested a 31-year-old man from Bridport on suspicion of assault. He remains in police custody while investigations continue.
Police Constable Aaron Strange, of Weymouth Police, said:
“We are carrying out fast-paced enquiries into this incident and I am keen to hear from any witnesses or anyone with information that might assist our investigation.
“I am particularly keen to hear from the man who reportedly intervened in the altercation and was allegedly assaulted.”
