Nominations Now Open for the Mayor’s Community Awards 2026
Residents across Weymouth are being encouraged to put forward the town’s unsung heroes as nominations officially open for the 2026 Mayor’s Community Awards.
The Mayor of Weymouth, Caroline Nickinson, is inviting members of the public to recognise individuals and groups who go above and beyond to support others and make a positive difference in the local community.
Cllr Nickinson said she has already met many inspiring residents during her time in office and is keen to see their efforts formally recognised.
She said: “Nominations for the Mayor’s Community Awards 2026 are open, and I can’t wait to see who the public put forward to have their efforts recognised. I’ve met some amazing people so far during my term of office as Mayor, and I know Weymouth is a very community-spirited town with people who do incredible things for their community.”
She added: “Please nominate by the closing date of Wednesday 22 April, and share this with friends, family or work colleagues, and let’s get those nominations pouring in!” ⭐
Who Can Be Nominated
The awards are designed to celebrate volunteers who give their time and energy to help others without financial reward. Nominees must live and provide their support within the boundaries of Weymouth Town Council. Serving councillors and council staff are not eligible for nomination.
Both individuals and community groups can be nominated, provided they meet the following criteria:
- They live within the Weymouth Town Council boundary
- Their voluntary work supports people within the same area
- They do not receive payment for the work being recognised
- If under the age of 18, parental or guardian permission must be obtained
How to Submit a Nomination
Residents wishing to nominate someone are asked to contact their local ward councillor with the name of the individual or group and a brief explanation of why they deserve recognition. Those unsure of who their councillor is can find details on the councillor section of the town council’s website.
All nominations must be submitted by 12pm on Wednesday 22 April ⏰. After the deadline, nominees will be shortlisted and invited to attend the Full Council meeting in May, where they will meet the Mayor and receive a certificate in recognition of their contribution.
The Mayor’s Community Awards continue to shine a spotlight on the quiet dedication of volunteers who help keep Weymouth’s strong community spirit alive—so residents are encouraged to act now and make sure local heroes get the recognition they deserve.
