APPEAL: Police issue images following suspected arson at Sherborne Police Station

An investigation is underway after a suspected arson incident at Sherborne Police Station in the early hours of Saturday 25 April 2026.

At approximately 3.30am, a small fire was discovered outside the station’s boiler room. Emergency response measures ensured the fire was quickly contained and prevented from spreading to the main building. No injuries were reported.

Officers from Dorset Police have confirmed that the cause of the fire is currently believed to be deliberate, and a full investigation has been launched.

Detective Inspector Rich Barnett, of Dorset County CID, said enquiries are ongoing and appealed to the public for assistance:

“An investigation has been launched into this incident and I am appealing for anyone with information that might assist our enquiries to please contact us.

“I am also issuing images of a man I would like to identify and I am keen to hear from anyone with information relating to his identity. I appreciate these images are not the best quality, but I am hopeful someone may still recognise the individual.”

Police are urging anyone who may have seen suspicious activity in the area around the time of the incident, or who recognises the individual in the released images, to come forward.

Anyone with information is asked to contact Dorset Police via their website or by calling 101, quoting occurrence number 55260060679. Alternatively, information can be provided anonymously through the independent charity Crimestoppers online or by calling 0800 555 111.
