Ever wondered what lies beneath Weymouth’s streets?
History isn’t just found in books—it’s right beneath your feet. This May, you’ll have a unique chance to step into the past and uncover the hidden stories of Weymouth at the exciting Community Excavation Open Day.
Taking place on Saturday 9 May, from 10.30am to 3.30pm, this special event invites visitors of all ages to explore an active archaeological dig, meet the experts, and discover how layers of history are revealed piece by piece. Whether you’re a local resident, a history enthusiast, or simply curious about what lies below the surface, this is a rare opportunity to see archaeology in action.
Organised with support from Dorset Council, the open day offers hands-on insight into the excavation process, along with stories and findings that bring Weymouth’s rich heritage to life.
From ancient artefacts to everyday items from centuries past, each discovery helps paint a picture of the people who once lived, worked, and walked the same streets we do today.
Don’t miss your chance to dig deeper into Weymouth’s past.
