Weymouth RNLI Assists Emergency Response to Yacht Fire at Portland Marina

Volunteer crew members from RNLI Weymouth were called into action on the evening of Saturday, 2 May 2026, to support emergency services responding to a yacht fire at Portland Marina.

The inshore lifeboat Jack and Phyll Cleare launched at 5:04pm following a request from HM Coastguard. Tasked with assisting the Fire Service, the volunteer crew made their way swiftly to the scene to help manage the developing situation and support the evacuation of nearby vessels.

Upon arrival, fire crews were already tackling the blaze, which had broken out on one yacht and subsequently spread to two neighbouring vessels. The Weymouth lifeboat crew remained on standby throughout the incident, ready to provide immediate assistance if required.

Thanks to the coordinated efforts of all emergency responders, the fire was successfully brought under control. Fortunately, all involved were reported safe and accounted for, with no injuries reported.

Once the situation was deemed safe and under control, the lifeboat crew were stood down. The Jack and Phyll Cleare returned to Weymouth Harbour at approximately 7:15pm.

The incident highlights the vital role played by RNLI volunteers in supporting multi-agency emergency responses along the Dorset coast.
