At our Asda store in Weymouth, one colleague is proving that a smile really can make all the difference.
Sam, 33, is a familiar and much-loved face on the shop floor at Asda Weymouth, where he’s been delighting customers since 2018. With his bubbly personality, helpful manner and unwaveringly positive outlook on life, it’s no surprise he’s regularly praised by shoppers.
One of his regular customers was so impressed by Sam’s friendly approach that they got in touch to share their appreciation. They said: “Sam always stops and helps me and shows me how to do things. He is so kind … he is always happy and smiling.”
Sam’s retail journey began in his home city of Cambridge, where he spent five years working at Asda Cambridge before making the move to Weymouth.
“I love my job. I wouldn’t want to do anything else,” said Sam. “I like meeting and interacting with the wide range of people I see every day. I love the people side of it; everyone is so friendly here.
“I have cerebral palsy which affects my right side, but it doesn’t affect my work at all. Sometimes I get tired on my leg, but that’s about it. I’m quite stubborn though and it’s usually my colleagues who tell me to go and sit on a checkout. My colleagues here are very supportive of me and look out for me.”
Sam’s determination and team spirit haven’t gone unnoticed by his colleagues. Sue, Customer Manager at the Weymouth store, said: “Sam is such an amazing lad. We’re always getting brilliant feedback about him and we love him to bits.
“He is always going out of his way to help our customers, he is kind, caring and always smiling. He supports other colleagues and is always positive. The whole world could be crumbling, but Sam would have a smile on his face and a positive comforting response.”
From lending a helping hand to sharing a cheerful chat, Sam’s enthusiasm brightens the day for customers and colleagues alike. At Asda Weymouth, he’s not just putting items through the till — he’s putting smiles on faces too.
