Man Arrested Following Reported Rape in Weymouth Released on Bail as Investigation Continues

Detectives investigating a reported rape in Weymouth town centre have issued an update as enquiries into the incident continue.

Dorset Police received a report at 2.44am on Thursday 18 June 2026 that a woman in her 20s had been raped in Clifton Place. The incident is reported to have occurred between 2am and 2.30am.

A full investigation was launched by officers from Dorset County CID, with specially trained officers continuing to provide support to the victim throughout the investigation.

Police have confirmed that, following detailed enquiries, a man in his 20s from Poundbury was arrested on suspicion of rape. He has since been released on conditional bail while further enquiries are carried out.

Detective Chief Inspector George Graham, of Dorset County CID, said: “We are continuing to support the victim and she is being kept updated with developments in the investigation.

“Our investigation is continuing and we are still appealing for any witnesses, or anyone who may have captured relevant dashcam, home CCTV or doorbell camera footage, to please come forward.

“We recognise that an incident of this nature may cause concern for the local community and officers can be approached by anyone with information or concerns.”

The appeal follows Dorset Police’s initial request for witnesses after the incident was first reported on Thursday.

Anyone who was in the Clifton Place area between 2am and 2.30am on Thursday 18 June and may have seen anything suspicious, or anyone with relevant footage, is urged to contact Dorset Police.
